I can vouch that acidophilus from vitamin aisle works. As soon as any sign of it appears either in form or tingles or itchiness on my lips, a pill a day for the next 3-4 days eliminates an outbreak completely - not even a little bubble will appear. Ever since the pharmacist suggested this to me, I have been cold sore-free for the past 6 years. Prior to that, I've had one to two outbreaks every fall/winter (from Oct. to Feb.) The pills are cheap and effective, without the need for prescription and completely beats Abreva (which doesn't even work for me! and it's super expensive).

I have tried this before I seen this website and it works! This is better than putting a prescription drug in your body. I keep Carmex on my lips, and I put more Carmex on the site of the cold sore. This is how I take it...

Day 1: Take 4 Acidophilus pills, 2 in the morning and 2 before bedtime and take 2 Benadryl to dry it up. Keep lips lubricated with Carmex. Put more Carmex on the site of the sore.

Day 2: Repeat step 1, but no more Benadryl

Day 3: Take 2 Acidophilus a day until its gone ( I take it before bedtime). Keep lips covered in Carmex.

Throw away: lip gloss, lipsticks, Carmex & toothbrush.

Cold sores and fever blisters are also known as Oral Herpes.

If you are looking for something that's been clinically proven to treat herpes you can also go for Valtrex, Acyclovir, and/or Famvir.

People that don't have insurance might want to stick with Acyclovir as it's cheaper and much more affordable. The only drawback to it is that you have to take more during the day than you would if you were taking Valtrex and/or Famvir.

I've never heard of Entrin before so that's a new one. I'm guessing that you can purchase it over the counter then?
