Even Kids With Special Dietary Needs Can Cook
One of my daughters is lactose intolerant, one has a friend who has life-threatening peanut allergies, and my nephew has celiac disease (no wheat or gluten). While these children all have special dietary needs, it doesn’t mean they can’t have fun in the kitchen!
KidsHealth has a whole page of recipes for kids and it includes recipes specifically for kids with special dietary needs like cystic fibrosis, diabetes, lactose intolerance, celiac, and vegetarians. (Thanks to FreeStuff4Kids for letting us know about this fun site)
With many special dietary needs, there is no reason for a child to feel left out when it comes to eating. A lot of times it just takes some careful planning and education of those around them. We recently had a big family birthday party with my brother’s family. The whole event was wheat and gluten free – even the cake – and the ice cream was lactose free. To an uninformed guest, they never would have missed the missing ingredients! It was all yummy.
