Extended Stay America – Clean & Family Friendly

Over the past year I have done quite a bit of travel for both work and for fun with the kids. We have had some great hotel stays and few pretty awful ones, too, but the one thing that I have learned is that having the conveniences of home while we travel is more and more important to me.

Last month we traveled to Colorado Springs, CO to drop my daughter off at the Air Force Academy. With so many families coming into the area all at once, you can imagine, finding a hotel could be a challenge. Luckily for me (and this is a disclosure),  Extended Stay America was kind enough to give me a few nights in their Colorado Springs location in exchange for my honest review of my stay.

Extended Stay America has over 600 locations throughout the US and Canada, and the location I visited in Colorado Springs is probably one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. Their rooms include fully-equipped kitchens which makes Extended Stay America the ideal choice for family travel, extended business stays and even relocation stays of longer than a week or so.

The spacious room at Extended Stay America has a kitchen – you can stock the fridge when you arrive and cook most of your meals while you are there. For family travel, this feature is such a money saver – and for those with food sensitivities (like us), it is easier to go to the local grocery store and cook your own food than to try to eat out each meal. The room comes stocked with basic dishes and utensils as well as dish detergent, however, they have a wide variety of kitchen ware available at the front desk – just call down and they will bring it up to your room.

The rooms at Extended Stay America are well-equipped, however, here are a few little tips to keep in mind:

There are no hair dryers in the room. I hate packing my hair dryer, especially since most hotel rooms have them. My hotel room did not have a hair dryer in it, but I called down to the front desk and they have them and sent one up to me.

Housekeeping does not come every day – so hang up your towels after you use them. Of course, if you need fresh towels, just call down to the front desk and they will take care of you!

Chances are your Extended Stay America hotel does not have an in-house restaurant, business center or pool, but it does have on-site laundry (essential when traveling with kids) and free wi-fi in all rooms.

There is no in-house restaurant, but Extended Stay America has a great Grab ‘n Go breakfast area in the lobby.  The coffee was hot and fresh-brewed, and there were plenty of quick options like granola bars and muffins to take with you as you headed out for the day.

Pets are welcome. We didn’t travel with a pet, but there were guests in the hotel that did and I am sure they enjoyed their trip more by bringing their furry friends with them.

Great customer service! The night before my daughter was to check in at USAFA, we were getting her things ready for the next morning and we needed a sewing kit. I called to the front desk to ask if they had one, but they didn’t. I took a quick trip to Target and got what we needed and went about my business. The next afternoon I was doing some work in the room after dropping my daughter off and I heard a knock at the door. It was one of the front desk attendants and they had brought me a sewing kit. How very thoughtful!!! Even though they didn’t have one when I asked, they went out of their way for me and got one. That is great customer service! Since I no longer needed the sewing kit, I gave it back to them at the end of my trip, to keep for the next person who needed it.

One of the benefits of the work I do, is that I can work from anywhere – as long as I have an Internet connection. The free Wi-Fi at Extended Stay America was fast and allowed me to comfortably work from my room during my trip.

The bottom line. If you are looking for a clean, friendly, economical way to travel – as a family, sports team, business trip or relocation – I highly recommend giving Extended Stay American a try. They are definitely my new go-to hotel option!
