Thanks for a great post. Nothing like keeping it simple! To sooth a sore throat we always gargle with warm salt water and settle the stomach by drinking flat ginger ale. Works every time!

I learned the value of salt years ago when I was in the Peace Corps. It was pretty much common knowledge amongst us Peace Corps Volunteers that if our stomach was upset and we knew we needed to throw up - drink salt water. but make sure you're over the toilet when you do because you'll upchuck within seconds!! That trick saved me from many a miserable night waiting to throw up - I could get it over with and get back to sleep.

We've also used the salt water up the nose for a cold - it's amazing how well it works! We are now getting ready to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina (with our ten-year-old twin boys) so won't be able to carry much in the way of medicine. One thing I will have though, is salt!!

I guess it would work well in a nasal sprayer, but the "inhaling" the mix does work.

I'm a bit put off by the prospect of 'inhaling' the water mix - but if it works!

Love the idea of going back to the old ways. We just need to be reminded, really.
